Bolivia - Rurrenabaque

After a couple days rest in La Paz, we had a six-hour delay at the airport before flying on a nineteen-passenger plane for Rurrenabaque, a gateway town to either the jungle or las pampas.

There was a good reason for these airsickness bags: every little bump was felt as we flew over the mountains, and the inside temperature of the plane was rather warm.  It's amazing everyone kept his food in his stomach.

As soon as we touched down, the warm humidity wrapped us up like a blanket.  It was a wonderful feeling and much welcomed after the cold, dry climate in both Lake Titicaca and La Paz.  For at least a few days, we could put our winter clothes away.

Yep, this is the airport.  The building is as small as it looks.
We went trudging from one hostel to the next before settling on a dive that cost only four dollars per night, the shared bathrooms hadn't been cleaned in years, and the screens to block out the mosquitoes in our room were literally coming off the windows.  Why did we settle, you ask?  Well, for one, Kerri is crazy and enjoys seedy places, and two, we were alone on the fourth (top) floor with amazing views over the whole town.

After walking around town and enjoying the sunset over the river, we treated ourselves to delicious, non-Bolivian food and a couple of foofy drinks to celebrate the warmth.  Actually, Kerri is more of a beer drinker but encouraged me to go for the fruity drinks anyway.  It was a very nice evening.

Notice the wonderful summer clothes we were able to change into.
